Executive Director
September 2001
Dear Friends and Members of the National Black College Alliance:
Welcome to the National Black College Alliance.
We
welcome you to join us as a member. Join the movement started by twenty two college
students and alumni ten years ago to assist urban youth get higher education at the
nation's historically black colleges and universities and become leaders in their
communities. The Alliance believes that we must start to train our next generation to be
civic contributors to the workforce and communities of tomorrow.
We have just finished celebrating our 10 years as an organization, and so much has
happened. As many of you know, through an anonymous donation in July 2000, I took the helm
of the NBCA as the organization’s first Executive Director. My charge was simple-to
make the NBCA move from its grassroots level and build the organization’s
infrastructure. It has been an amazing year! We have moved so quickly on getting things
accomplished.
We have:
- set up a national office space in Boston with phone, computer equipment, filing
cabinets, and meeting space
- developed collaborations with youth groups, schools and community groups
- developed our Board of Directors and Advisory Board members
- raised the awareness of the NBCA organization and black colleges
- hired new full- and part-time staff • and developed new funding partnerships with
foundations, corporations, government, business, and individuals
Please sign up for the National Black College Alliance, by clicking JOIN Now! on our home web page. If you know of any HBCU alumni
or college students, please give us their name and number. We would gladly contact them
about how to get involved in our community building work.
Again without the support and guidance of many board members and our Co-chairs of our
Community Advisory Board, Charles Ogletree and Caroline Hunter-we would not have been able
to get this far.
If you need to contact me, please call me at 617.442.8045 or e-mail me at ggreenidge@nbcalliance.org. Remember the Sky
is the Limit, Let’s Go For It!
Sincerely,
George Greenidge
